Legacy Charter School wanted a space to encourage students to try new things and naturally learn about food. They partnered with RDG to design a functional, efficient kitchen and a servery concept that actively promotes a healthy lifestyle.
Too few POS stations, minimal storage, and a very linear serving setup made for a very slow-moving and institutional environment for the students at this school. This was especially disconcerting as Legacy Charter School is grounded in health and wellness principles as a path to academic excellence.
Post renovation, storage, and prep space are right-sized, flow is improved by the use of common, two-sided cashier stations, and a dynamic and open servery is centered on a true, chef-centric action station. This live cooking concept encourages students to sample new foods during lunch and provides a non-traditional demonstration venue to teach children and their families how to prepare healthier food at home, as well.
We are grateful for the opportunities that we have been given to do great work with amazing organizations. Please reach out to us to start a conversation about your food experience challenges, to kick around creative ideas for your space, or just to gather input on how the foodservice design process even works. We would be excited to listen and to share.
