Central Middle International School was a three-phase renovation project of the original 1914 building. Previously the home of Kokomo High School, the building is now an authorized International Baccalaureate school for grades six through eight. Critical to the vision for the new space, school leadership wanted to highlight and continue the focus on international experiences so familiar to the diverse student body.
Instead of repurposing an existing space to make it work, RDG saw past the existing rooms and spaces to open up the space so that students could foster relationships and community so critical to reaching their full potential. Nixing straight lines and cold colors, RDG chose to use curving lines in warm natural tones to draw the eye and entice them to move through the many options available.
From the beginning, it was important to school leadership that the foodservice program would reflect the international experience prevalent throughout the school. The servery holds to this axiom while enticing students to eat healthy with a “fresh food first” approach and flexible space to accommodate a diverse menu.
We are grateful for the opportunities that we have been given to do great work with amazing organizations. Please reach out to us to start a conversation about your food experience challenges, to kick around creative ideas for your space, or just to gather input on how the foodservice design process even works. We would be excited to listen and to share.
